A BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO WINE TASTING

The tasting process is best defined as ANALYSING WINE USING YOUR SENSES.

In order to carry out a wine tasting correctly, we need to ensure that a series of conditions are met. Firstly, the room where we are going to carry it out must be large, well lit, white and free from odours, so that we can fully appreciate the colours and aromas of the wine. The temperature of the room is also important, which should not be too warm or too cold, as in both cases it can alter the characteristics of the wine and the taster’s sensory capacities.

The second element to be taken into account is the glass. In general, TASTING GLASSES (or AFNOR glasses) are used, with a capacity of 220 cubic centimetres, but which are only filled to one-third, and held by the foot.
